1. What inspired you to write a children's book?
My two children, Whitney and Leo are my inspiration for this book. The purpose of the story is to:
Emphasize the importance of diverse representation in children's books.
Introduce young girls and boys of diverse backgrounds to stories which allow them to relate to the main characters.
Encourage children to learn about their family history and cultural heritage
Empower children to develop self-confidence and a sense of pride in their diverse family backgrounds.
Inspire all readers to develop an interest in learning more about African history and culture.
2. If you could tell yourself one affirmation as a kid, what would it be?
Dream big and don't let anyone discourage you from pursuing your dreams.
3. What's next for you as an author?
Afia the Ashanti Princess: A Visit to the Motherland is the debut story of the Ashanti Princess and Prince book series. I have more projects in the pipeline that will continue to explore Ghana through the eyes of young Afia and her brother, Kofi.
